This small, fast food shop has a loyal and strong following, with no website but an active Facebook page. Located at 110 Packetts Landing in Fairport, the food is fresh, generous in size and straight-forward: empanadas with sides of rice & beans, fries, tator tots, onion rings and assorted drinks. An empanada is a stuffed pastry filled with meat (beef, chicken, pulled pork, steak & cheese, for example) or seafood. Make sure you call for hours and the daily empanada selections (223-7722).
Very good Chinese food for take-out can be found at China King, 120 Packetts Landing in Fairport. There is plenty of parking available in the large public lot behind Town Hall and it’s a quick walk to the actual restaurant.

Lunch specials are available from 10:30-3, while special combinations include an egg role and pork fried rice. China King also offers delivery, with a few restrictions.
An art class like you’ve never envisioned! Art instruction paired with friends, wine and a lively instructor. At Painting with a Twist “Students” produce an individual work of art during the 2 or 3 hour class. Painting with a Twist provides all the painting supplies and instructions; participants bring their favorite bottle of wine or beverage. In Fairport, the Studio is located at 1276 Fairport Rd, Fairport.

The month of August is packed with music nearly every evening at Woodcliff’s Horizon Lounge. The lounge is comfortable with bar or table seating, a friendly staff, and a view to envy as Woodcliff sits on a cliff overlooking Pittsford and Rochester. Happy Hour specials are available from 2:30-6pm and the lounge offers a menu with a wide variety of choices, from light to heavier selections. The wine offerings include a large variety from local/Finger Lakes wineries. Look for music in the lounge from 5:30-8:30 Monday thru Thursday; 7:30-midnight Friday and Saturday. Music, music, music! The Fairport Music Festival is scheduled for 1-day and 2-nights this year: Friday and Saturday, August 26th and 27th. This Festival is THE place to be for a rock ‘in time for the entire family - children’s activities are planned. There will be 4 band-stage areas with 30+ bands for non-stop entertainment. You’ll also find food trucks and food booths from local establishments. Parking on Saturday will be made easier with a free looping shuttle, 3-11pm from Minerva Deland School to the Festival site (Lift Bridge Lane, Fairport). Discounted tickets can be purchased online or from local merchants until August 25th. Tickets are also available day of at the gate.

Lastly, and most importantly, 100% of the proceeds of the Festival are donated to Golisano’s Children’s Hospital at Strong. To date, the Festival has donated OVER $900,000 to the hospital. Walk, drive, bike to the Festival; it’s an amazing music event.

Have you wanted to learn how to play chess? Or perhaps you are looking to play but don’t have a partner? On both August 11th and 18th, join a chess expert from the Rochester Chess Center to learn how to play or add to your skills. You will get paired up with players of equal skill level and the one-hour class is open to all ages, although registration is required. 6:30-7:30pm
If your kids, age 7-14, are looking for some fun and a challenge, consider the Youth Triathlon scheduled for Sunday, August 7th at the Perinton Community Center. Two distances are offered, depending upon the youth’s skill and/or comfort level. The Youth Triathlon consists of a pool swim, a 2 mile bike ride, and a ½ mile run. For those looking for more distance, they can register for the Double Triathlon: 100 yard pool swim, 4 mile bike, and 1 mile run. Check in is at the Community Center. The events take place within the Community Center and the outdoor areas surrounding Center Park. A light lunch will be provided after you finish the race.
