May 2015 The Erie Canal Will Be Open To Boaters

Subject to conditions, the 2015 Erie Canal will be open to boaters beginning Friday, May 1, 2015 (tentative date).  Along the canal is the 365-mile Erie Canalway Trail, where you can walk, jog or bike and enjoy great scenery and fascinating history.  The Trail is a paved or stone dust trail.

Accessing the trail is an easy drive with parking at the Village of Fairport Box Factory parking lot (off Liftbridge Lane) or at  Perinton Park.  Accessing the canal from  StoneBrook Townhomes & Cottages is a nice hike along the Trolley Trail.  Pick up the Trolley Trail at the corner of Route 31 and Mason Rds. A new pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the canal built by the town of Fairport connects directly to the Erie Canalway Trail.
